I Don’t Give Jobs, I Hire Men

In the 1963 movie, McLintock!, John Wayne explains to a young man whose family has come upon hard times that he’s “got it all wrong. I don’t give jobs, I hire men.”  For prospects participating in the NHL rookie/prospects/development camps across North America this July, the opportunity is given but it is up to the player to show maturity as a professional.

Some players can do this with skill alone.  Most players, will have to show different pro-hockey player qualities.  Things like leadership, on and off ice presence, and toughness.  So, in a game situation, like yesterday’s Red versus White scrimmage during the Washington Capitals Development Camp, two of the boys might square off and settle something.

In this case, Anthony Pisano challenged Joe Finley after the hulking 6′ 8″ Finley leveled Pisano’s White teammate Zach Miskovic.  Finley answered the bell.

Pisano and Finley were fighting for a job.
